1-6   WORLD PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION


After a sharp drop-off in world consumption in the late 1970's, asbestos consumption, and by extension, production have been relatively stable. And while the global recession of the early 90's had a negative impact on some markets, others, notably in Asia and Latin America.





Consistent with the regulatory trends, the production of amphibole asbestos fibres continued to drop off, with amosite no longer being mined, and very limited crocidolite production.





Chrsyotile and its production continue to be imported and used in more than 60 countries
